If you spotted Montreal artist Pelée on the street, he’d probably be reading a book of poetry by Saul Williams, listening to John Coltrane, and recording ambient sound on a handheld device, with a tea in the other. Then again, he’d just as likely be reading manga, listening to drone noise, and playing back handheld recordings with a coffee in the other. Pelée’s particular mixture of beat and music production is something you could just as easily show off to your hipster friends as your grandma. A casual listen will give you little more than something fun you might hear at a coffee shop. A deeper inspection reveals a multitude of wonderful layers and colours that change with each embarkment.
